History

The Department of Economics was established on 1 July 2000 by the separation of the majority of teachers teaching economic subjects from individual professional (profile) departments of the Faculty of Operation and Economics of Transport and Communications and from the former Department of Social Sciences of the Faculty of PEDAS with the aim of providing economic subjects for all faculties, with the intention to create a gradually independent field of study (program) of purely economic focus in response to the growing demand in the region.

At present, the Department of Economics is a profile department providing two study fields / programs - the study program Economics and Business Management accredited for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree of university study and the study program Financial Management yet with accreditation for the 1st and 2nd degree of university study.

The Department of Economics also provides basic and specialized economic, legal and social subjects in all fields of study at the Faculty of PEDAS and at selected fields of study at other faculties of the University of Žilina. Graduates of these fields of study have the prerequisites for wide application in various functions of economic departments of enterprises, state and public administration and business organizations. Lecturers at the Department are presented by expert staff of the Department as well as external experts whose results are presented at home and abroad.
