Research focus:
prof. Ing. Tomáš Klieštik, PhD., is a prominent scientific figure and a leading expert in the application of mathematical-statistical methods in financial management and finance. His professional profile was shaped after studying Operations Research and Econometrics at the Faculty of Economic Informatics, University of Economics in Bratislava, in the environment of Faculty PEDAS, University of Žilina, where he completed his doctoral studies, habilitated, and was appointed professor. In his research activity, he cuts across a pentalogy of fundamental problems, or issues, in financial management: i) prediction of financial health, ii) earnings management, iii) cost of capital, iv) quantification and diversification of risks, and v) optimization of corporate outputs based on tax shields. Recently, in response to paradigmatic changes in society, he has also begun focusing on the digital and SMART economy with an emphasis on IoT and Digital Twins. Through his research activities and by supervising bachelor's, master's, and doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers, and young scientists, he builds the necessary school of financial management, without which many research activities, not only at Faculty PEDAS, would very likely have to be scaled back. It is worth recognizing his activities aimed at nurturing the young scientific generation, as evidenced by the exceptionally productive research and publication activity of collaborators from his research school. Several of them have received prestigious awards, participate in research of a transnational character, publish in recognized international scientific journals, are members of the research teams of significant national and international projects, and sit on the editorial boards of renowned scientific journals. He has completed research stays in the Russian Federation, the Czech Republic, Romania, Poland, Bulgaria, and Croatia. He is Head of the Department of Economics, Faculty PEDAS, University of Žilina. He is a member of several scientific boards at home and abroad. He is also a member of several editorial boards of renowned indexed and impacted foreign journals. Last but not least, he is guarantor and editor of the proceedings of the largest international scientific conference in the social sciences in Central Europe, “Globalization and its Socio-Economic Consequences.” In 2020, he received the Literary Fund Award, Section for Scientific and Professional Literature and Computer Programs – the Award for Three-Year Scientific Impact 2020 in the category of social sciences. It can also be considered an extraordinary achievement that several scientific articles in which he features as an author have received the prestigious Web of Science “Highly Cited Papers” designation nearly 20 times.

During his work at the Department of Economics, he has taught lectures in the following courses: business economics, corporate finance, investment management, financial-economic analysis of a company, financial management, financial market analysis, statistical analysis, econometric analysis, operations research, financial mathematics, mathematical modelling, company value management, managerial finance, quantitative methods in economic research, digital and SMART economy, accounting, calculations and budgets, microeconomics, general economic theory.
